2/12/26 Zoom Gathering Recap

Upcoming Events

Warm and Productive Conversation!

Thanks to those who gathered on zoom to catch up with Regenerate Whatcom, share ideas for regeneration in our landscape and hang out together! All of us on the Regenerate Whatcom “initiating team” thorougly enjoyed hearing about what you are doing and how our efforts may dovetail. We appreciated seeing folks deep in it already and new folks coming to share their work on the land, supporting culture change and climate science.

What is happening in Whatcom?
What folks brought to discuss!

Food-growing, security, sovereignty.

Food systems are always talked about in our gatherings!
We heard from a small farmer exploring new ways to grow in reciprocity with community. Perhaps an upcoming Permaculture meet-up will be at this farm!

We heard from a university student about a Spring food event she is planning centering Indigenous food -connected with the Native American Student Union at Western WA University.
Stay tuned for how you might be able to help.

Living in this place we love.

What does it feel like to be in this place; how can we go deeper?
Ideas for Bioregional Sensing trips-from the mountains to the sea-were explored. Will there be kayaks involved? Such a series is being actively explored.

The casting of water patterns made last August at a Walking Whacom Waters event needs to be revealed at the River Farm. Great idea for a gathering this spring or summer.

A friend from a partner landscape on the Olympic Penninsula, shared ideas about engaging youth in building skills in a circular economy. All agreed on the importance of engaging young people in this work.

A suggestion was made that we get the word out about Regenerate Whatcom and engage people through tabling at local events such as the Whatcom Conservation District’s Native Plant Sale and more.

Arts and science

Art and science focused on regeneration are active here!
Kulshan Carbon Trust’s is planning a pilot biochar project happening at Inspiration Farm, with the aim to hold future public biochar events at neighboring farms.

How do the metrics used for “overshoot” apply to our area? The Whatcom Environmental Council will be exploring this topic with a workgroup.

Arts are a good avenue for youth to express the many feelings our current climate and social situation create. A local artist is exploring how to make art processes available to local youth for expression and supporting individual agency in acting for the future. Stay tuned for more!

We Hear You!

Folks asked how they can get the word out about their events through Regenerate Whatcom or how they can express a need, propose an event or project.  Others expressed a desire for focus groups or “circles” to explore projects and events on specific topics such as food resilience, water, etc..  The initiating team is enthused about these ideas and will be considering them soon.

We have added a way you can propose an idea, project, event or need on the Get Involved page. We look forward to hearing from you!

Stay tuned for a more information about these and other Regenerate Whatcom developments!
